Food Forest
Cultivating communites through
Food, Health and Biophilic Design
The Brief
This project was a RSA open brief. The challenge was to bring people together through food and biophilia to help improvement health and it's high correlation to people eating alone.
The Client
The Royal society for Arts (RSA) has been at the forefront of significant social impact for over 250 years. Providing platforms, opportunities and networks for all those who share our vision to connect, engage, share ideas and expertise.
Branding
The font consists of two reflecting F's depicting a tree, to reflect the symbolism of a forest. The colours incorporate three shades of green for a number reasons. The cafe is supposed to be relaxing and green harmonises with a Biophillic Design which studies have endorsed as being advantageous to people's psychological well being. Green represents relaxation and calmness. Green is also used to promote nature and an Organic life.
After researching for ideas on how best to tackle the brief, I decided to create an interactive cafe named Food Forest.
Food Forest is more than just a cafe it has social and networking events, it is not just about having a drink. It primarily focuses on bringing people together across the ages. It is designed to be an inclusive place for all ages, ethnicities, religions and genders. The aim is for people to come together to support their local community and remove social isolation, in the hope to better people's mental well being.
Food Forest will include gym/yoga session, cooking classes, food festivals and speed networking on a weekly timetable.
Socialising has a positive effect on the community and can reduce depression and other mental health symptoms. On a casual day where you just order food or a drink and find a space, you will be allocated or allowed to choose a table where you meet somebody new.
Food Forest also focuses on our natural connection with nature and has a lot of Biophilic interior design for this reason.
